Maintenance, fitting and removal of contact lenses

CONTACT LENSES MAINTENANCE
During wearing, contact lenses are exposed to:
- external influences (dust, particles, impurities)
- microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites)
- substances that enter into the composition a tear (proteins, mucins)
Proper maintenance of contact lenses is of great importance because otherwise infections and serious complications that are dangerous to vision can occur. Contact lenses must be properly, regularly and carefully maintained with appropriate means for that purpose. The ophthalmologist is obliged to provide instructions to the patient regarding the proper handling of contact lenses and their maintenance with adequate means for that purpose. Only in this way will the patient be comfortable and safe when wearing contact lenses.
