World Diabetes Day marked with lectures and free eye examinations

Diabetes is an insidious and very serious disease characterized by mild symptomatology, and therefore often a large number of people with diabetes do not even know that they are affected, since this disease can go unnoticed for years, and is discovered by chance, unfortunately when complications are already present. This disease gradually leads to damage to all blood vessels, including the blood vessels of the fundus of the eye, which can lead to loss of vision. 

International Diabetes Federation (IDF) shows that as many as 371 million people in the world have diabetes, and this number is growing rapidly. When it comes to our country, based on the data of the IDF and the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Batut”, it is estimated that 8.5% of the population, more precisely about 670,000 people, have diabetes, which is a significant increase compared to last year, when close to 600,000 people with diabetes were diagnosed. 

The goal of this action of the “Perfect Vision” team is to point out the importance of preventive and regular eye examinations, especially having in mind the devastating statistics, which show that for every person suffering from diabetes, there is another who does not know that he suffers from this terrible disease. Therefore, timely detection of the disease is crucial, because only in this way is it possible to establish control over it and ensure a long-term quality of life.
