Lecture and free eye examinations on the occasion of World Diabetes Day

Doctors of the “House of Health” yesterday at the Open University gave a lecture on the subject of “Diabetic retinopathy” to members of the Association of Diabetics. Also, members had the opportunity to check their eyesight completely free of charge, as well as their three-month blood sugar.
This campaign aimed to highlight the importance of prevention of eyesight in people with diabetes.
Diabetes is an insidious and very serious disease that gradually leads to the damage of all blood vessels, and thus the blood vessels of the fundus, which can lead to loss of vision. With examinations of the fundus and a lecture on the topic of diabetic retinopathy, the “Health Center” ophthalmology team wanted to draw attention to the necessity of visiting an ophthalmologist immediately after learning about an elevated blood sugar level.
The “Health Center” laboratory enabled the present members of the Association of Diabetics to control their three-month sugar. This analysis is a good indicator of whether and to what extent the patient adhered to the prescribed therapy within 3 months.
More than 600,000 diabetes patients are registered in Serbia. The Association of Diabetics in Subotica says that for every person suffering from diabetes, there is another person who does not know that they suffer from this disease.
