Mandatory ophthalmological examinations of children in the 4th year are prescribedRulebook on the Scope and Content of Health Care for 2013 (Provision on the Content and Scope of Preventive Measures in the Field of Health Care), since this age is crucial for performing a systematic eye examination. Vision develops up to the age of 7 and therefore it is necessary to notice in time whether the child has a large diopter, difference in refractive error, discrepancy or any other disorders that, if not recognized and treated in time, lead to amblyopia. The current practice of systematic vision examinations at the age of 7 practically does not make any preventive sense, because as the development of vision ends in that period, such late detected amblyopia (insufficiently developed vision) cannot be significantly corrected, which is a huge handicap for parents and children. The importance of this examination is emphasized in children whose parents or close relatives have a refractive anomaly (diopter), because the hereditary gene is a very important factor.
In children who are found to have any anomaly (deviation from the physiological finding for age), we will provide an adequate recommendation to parents in order to place the child under the professional supervision of an ophthalmologist, i.e. to correct refractive anomaly and discrepancy in a timely manner. All interested parties can also do this for free at our facility.
The goal of this project is to screen as many children as possible, in order to detect in time those children who need to wear glasses in order to develop their eyesight properly, because it is one of the elementary prerequisites for a happy life of every child.

This project will be implemented continuously, until the end of the school year 2013/2014 in kindergartens “Our Joys”, with the prior consent of parents.
