The effect of solarium on vision
We all know that tanning beds are harmful, but do you know to what extent tanning beds have a negative effect on your eyes?

Tanning beds use lamps that emit ultraviolet light – UVA and UVB rays. Since the effect of these rays in the solarium is direct, exposure to harmful rays can be up to 100 times higher compared to sunlight.
Frequent stay in a tanning bed can cause various eye diseases, such as:
- benign conjunctival growth, the so-called pterygium, which grows into the cornea
- photokeratitis, i.e. corneal burns eyelid
- skin cancer
- senile macular degeneration (yellow spots)
- conjunctivitis
- cataracts
Some of these conditions can occur several years later, so it is important to take care of time. The best way to protect yourself is to avoid the use of tanning beds. However, for those who, despite being aware of the extremely harmful impact, continue to use the solarium, we emphasize that the use of protective goggles is necessary. In no case is it enough to just close your eyes, because the skin of the eyelids is very thin and sensitive, and harmful rays pass through it very easily. The correct glasses are only those that fit the face and have a certificate indicating that they protect against UV radiation.
If you experience eye pain or notice any changes in your eye and/or eyelids after a tanning bed, be sure to consult your eye doctor.
