After cataract surgery, he was born again!
Anto Marić is a retired train driver from Vrbas. Throughout his working life, he underwent strict medical checks, he was always healthy and in full strength. Fortunately, he rarely saw doctors, he says.
At the beginning of the year, he noticed that his vision in his right eye was getting weaker and weaker. The picture was getting hazier and hazier day by day. He thought it was a normal consequence of his age and that glasses would solve the problem. However, in May he suddenly lost the sight in his right eye.
Living with cataracts
Everyday affairs were becoming real hell for him.
“I walked through the house as if I was missing half of my head, I often missed a step, I always had to hold on to objects on the side… Oh, it’s really hard, hell! I couldn’t function and I went to the hospital for an examination. They say – cataract, I have to be operated on. They refer me to Novi Sad and there they say that they will put me on the list, the question is when my turn will come.”
He sent a letter to our address asking us to help him. Within a few days, Ante came for an examination.
“In the neighboring street, as many as 6 neighbors were operated on by you and they are all very satisfied. They say: “One doctor operates in Subotica, without injections and pain, everything is done in 10 minutes.” So I had no doubt who to turn to for a solution to my problem. As soon as I sent the letter, Sister Jelena called me and asked when I could come for an examination.”
Examination for cataract surgery

As part of the preoperative examination, Mr. Marić underwent a complete eye examination with pupil dilation, visual acuity was determined, eye pressure was measured, and the front and back of the eye were examined under a biomicroscope. The diopter of the intraocular lens, which is implanted in the eye during surgery, was determined by ultrasound biometry.
On the same day, he performed a complete pre-operative preparation in our institution, which includes an internist’s examination and laboratory analyses.
Cataract surgery
Mr. Marić had a large tumor on his right eyelid. Dr. Branka Ivošević made the decision that it is necessary to excision of the tumor first, and only then perform cataract surgery.

After a few days, Ante came to the scheduled cataract surgery somewhat worried and nervous. The operation lasted only 15 minutes, and thanks to drip anesthesia, the procedure was painless and pleasant for the patient.
“Unbelievable, but nothing hurt! I didn’t even feel like something was being done on my eye. Everything was done so gently and professionally, I don’t know if it was down to the anesthesia or to Dr. Branka. Time flew by, I didn’t even know it was over, I thought we were only halfway there.”
Perfect vision without cataracts
At the second check, Mr. Marić appeared as a completely different man. Smiling, agile, visibly in a good mood.
At first glance, Ante saw only light. Only 7 days after the operation, his visual acuity is 0.63, i.e. he has better vision in the operated eye than in the other eye.
“To be honest, I had no hope that he would be fine. I gave only a 5% chance that I would see after the operation, I was afraid because of my age, because of the tumor… Now I can see better in the operated eye than in my other healthy eye! I thank you all, all the best to you! I have no words, this is like a gift from heaven, it’s wonderful when a person can see with both eyes!”
