My experience after laser diopter removal

Jovana Stefanović after laser diopter removal
I just don’t know where to start… Maybe from the beginning? 🙂

I don’t remember the exact day when I started seeing poorly, but the letters on the blackboard at school became blurry for me and it got worse and worse.

Doctor’s examination – established dioptre of approximately -1.5 (I don’t remember exactly anymore) and glasses. Me and glasses? No way, I know exactly what will happen at school when I show up. Yes, teasing…

I decide to put my glasses on when I leave the apartment, so that my parents can see that I’m wearing them properly, and when they close the door, I put them in my bag, so that I can avoid being teased by the other kids at school. And so constantly. The blackboard at school became an impossible mission for me, I copied everything from my friend’s notebook.

The next examination, the diopter increases – I start to wear glasses a little more, but it is not enough, the diopter increases again.

I’m starting to wear contact lenses, and I wear them from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. The diopter no longer increases rapidly. It grows, but very little from once every two years.

20 years old, diopter -3.50 and good news – I’m pregnant. But… Postpartum eye examination -3.75, then -4.50.

Then the godfather told me how he heard about a top Clinic in Subotica, with the best doctors and nurses, where he was delighted with all the technology, effort and knowledge of the staff, as well as with the prices – Perfect Vision, the eye center of the House of Health. He had the surgery, and he is very satisfied.

So I looked for the Clinic on the Internet. I browsed the entire homepage and decided to make an appointment via email. I asked at least 10 questions, maybe stupid, but I got an answer to each question exactly as I imagined it. I made an appointment on November 1, 2017. with Anja Milić, who took the time for me to explain everything about the examination and the operation.

I went for an examination and it was established that I am a candidate for laser surgery, so in a little while Dr. Branka Ivošević will stand in the way of all my sufferings and restore my sight.

What is perhaps even more important, as Perfect Vision has promotions, I paid -50% for the review, incredible. I would argue that you cannot get this quality and this kind of staff anywhere for so little money. On the website of Perfect Vision, all the prices of operations and examinations are published, with which no one can compete, I am convinced.

The appointment for the operation is scheduled for 25.12.2017. The clinic informs me that since I do not live in Serbia, and I should come one day after the operation for a check-up, they will provide accommodation for my husband and me, free of charge. Another amazing gesture.

It was planned that my husband and I would go to Subotica on December 24, 2017. at night, in order to arrive around 8 o’clock in the morning for the operation. We’re having lunch, the phone rings, a Serbian number… “Hi Jovana, my name is Jelena, I’m just talking to Dr. Ivošević, and she suggests that you leave right away, in order to avoid the crowds at the borders, and after all, to rest your eyes for the operation. Of course, you won’t pay for accommodation for even 2 nights!”. First, I couldn’t open my mouth, to say anything, because honestly, for the first time in my life, I didn’t feel like a number one doctor, who was just doing his job, but like someone, for whom Dr. Ivošević really stood up for, and that it was very important to her that I see her again.

After an hour or two we are already in the car. Jelena, a wonderful woman welcomed us, in the apartment, parking, internet, food, everything provided.

The operation, there are 7 of us that day for the operation. Before the operations began, the doctor again examined each patient in detail in order to choose the method of operation with which the patient will be operated.

It was my turn. Dr. Ivošević tells sister Jelena Krulj to repeat the test on how many tears I have. Poor results, I lean towards dry eye. But it does not represent obstacles to the operation. That’s why the doctor decided on the PRK method for me, so as not to damage my eyes. Most clinics do the Lasik method on patients like me, who are prone to dry eye, and the patients suffer permanent consequences. I wrote this because Dr. Ivošević explained to me what the consequences would be if she operated on me with the Lasik method.

The nurse puts drops in my eyes (anesthesia), the drops work, the operation starts and it doesn’t hurt at all. Right after the operation, I get up and the doctor asks me what time it is. Imagine I see! 🙂

The doctor examines me, gives me drops, pain medication (which I didn’t have to pay for), explains everything that is important until the next check-up (the next day) and I go to the apartment.

When the anesthesia wore off, my eyes didn’t hurt, but I felt scratching, they narrowed a little, light and heat bothered me. I decided to sleep, so that the time would pass faster.

The next day the control, of course everything is fine and I’m going back to Austria.

After a week, I come again, so that the doctor can remove my contact lens, which was a shield for my eye, I get drops again, free of course. Everything is fine with my eyes.

I can see better and better every day, I just can’t believe that when I get up at night I don’t hit the bed, the door, I don’t trip… but I see them clearly and bypass them.

The doctor gave me her number, so that I can write to her whenever I have a question. Of course I wrote to her often J and I always got a reply.

I get a message from Dr. Ivošević, that he will not be in the country for several weekends, and if I could go for a check-up in a few days. I am again surprised by this message, another doctor would not care when I will come for a check-up and if I will come at all.

I go for the check-up, a little scared to see if everything is okay and if I can see 100%. Of course everything was fine, and I can see 100%. Diopter is 0.00. Overjoyed, I leave the clinic and now I’m sitting, I still can’t describe the feeling, how good it is to see.

I want to thank the Perfect Vision team with all my heart, especially Dr. Branka Ivošević, Sister Jelena Krulj and Anja Milić. The best clinic, with the best staff and the highest quality.
