The Allegretto Wave Eye-Q laser is the device of choice for surgeons around the world, with wide use in the USA. It applies various technical innovations in laser vision correction and delivers excellent results in ophthalmic practice. Laser diopter removal is tailored to each patient and their individual needs. In its calculations, in addition to diopters, the device also takes into account any irregularities and curvatures of the cornea. Allegretto Wave Eye-Q corrects these irregularities through its software, providing exceptionally sharp vision both in daylight and at night.

It significantly reduces visual phenomena that occur in night-time conditions, such as halos around light sources, glare and scattering of light from street lamps, car headlights, etc. This is achieved with advanced Wavefront Optimized technology, which maintains the cornea’s aspheric shape by distributing the laser beams evenly across it while creating a large optical zone. These are just some of the many advantages of this state-of-the-art device that set it apart from less advanced and older lasers, which create a much smaller optical zone and change the corneal shape to spherical, causing the above mentioned unwanted phenomena as well as poorer quality postoperative vision. Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, the laser enables the surgeon and patient to undergo a reliable and safe procedure with a minimal rate of possible postoperative complications or need for retreatment. The refractive surgeon can plan and perform vision correction much more precisely and rapidly, with minimal disruption of corneal tissue.

During the procedure, the laser directs invisible ultraviolet beams with a wavelength of 192nm onto the cornea. These beams do not heat the cornea and cannot damage it. Once they come into contact with the cornea, each beam removes only 0.25 microns of its tissue. To correct one diopter, it is necessary to remove just 14 microns of corneal tissue (or, more precisely, one sixtieth of a millimeter). The laser operates at a frequency of 400Hz and emits 400 laser beams/pulses per second, which means that it takes only 2 seconds to “remove” one diopter.
