World Glaucoma Week marked
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve due to increased eye pressure. This insidious disease, which is called the “silent killer of vision”, is unfortunately still often discovered by chance examination at a late stage, when it comes to already insidious and permanent visual impairments.
Therefore, after cataracts, glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness in the world in people over the age of 65. Risk groups are relatives of patients, elderly people, short-sighted people and diabetics.

A large number of citizens responded to the action. During the examination, patients had the opportunity to talk to the doctor and ask everything they were interested in. For persons with elevated intraocular pressure and changes in the optic nerve head, further tests were recommended, which, in addition to measuring the intraocular pressure, corneal thickness, width of the eye angle, visual acuity check and examination of the fundus, include OCT of the optic nerve head and, if necessary, a computerized visual field.
We want to thank all our fellow citizens, whose number exceeded a hundred yesterday, and who took time for the health of their eyes and responded in large numbers to another of our humanitarian campaigns of free examinations.
