Computers have become an integral and indispensable part of our everyday life. According to Intel’s research from 2016, as many as 93% of children and 65% of adults use a computer every day.
Interesting content that we see on the computer monitor very easily captures our attention, to such an extent that we forget to blink, our eyes dry out and our vision fluctuates. According to some claims, due to intense eye strain, eye muscles weaken and myopia occurs.
In addition to the golden rule of 20-20-20 and regular use of artificial tears, there is something else you can do for your eyes and relieve them of tension.
These are short and simple exercises that won’t take much time and will do wonders for your tired eyes.
Blink
Blinking is extremely important, because it contributes to moistening the eye. When working for a long time at the computer, blink as often as possible and briefly close and open your eyes.
Regulate blood circulation in the eye
A good exercise for the regulation of blood circulation in the eye is circling the head (from right to left, and then from top to bottom), with the gaze directed forward.
Close your eyes.
Darkness is thought to strengthen the photoreceptor cells in the eyes, so it is very effective to close your eyes for 5-10 minutes and relax. You can gently press the eyelids with your fingertips for 2 seconds, then slowly move the eyeballs up and down.
Change focus.
Take a pencil and hold it in front of you. Slowly bring it closer to your nose and look at its tip with both eyes, then slowly move it away. It is very effective if, after looking at the pencil, you turn your gaze to an object about 3 m away, and then to an even further object (8-9 m), and then return your gaze to the pencil again.
Look to the side
Look to one side for 5-10 seconds, then to the other for the same amount of time. Then look at the center for 2 seconds.
Roll your eyes.
Imagine that there is a clock in front of your eyes. Move your eyes as if following the movement of the hand, first in the direction of its movement on the clock, and then in the opposite direction. It is also a great exercise to “draw” the number 8 with your eyes. Do not move your head, only your eyes.
Massage your temples.
Lightly press the temples with your fingers for two seconds, then massage them in a circular motion. This exercise improves the flow of intraocular fluids.
Open your eyes wide.
Close your eyes for 5 seconds, then open them wide, as if you are surprised, and stay that way for 5 seconds.
It is important to repeat each exercise 5-10 times. Perhaps these exercises may seem tiring to you, but they will become a habit very quickly and will help reduce the tension in your eyes. In this way, you train the eye muscles and prevent the eyes from getting lazy and getting used to looking up close, which weakens vision.
Find answers to the most common questions about laser vision correction, cataracts and lens implantation. Everything you need to know before deciding on a procedure.
No, the procedure is completely painless. It takes only a few minutes, and as early as the next day you can function normally without glasses or lenses.
If you notice that your vision is blurry, colors are fading and you struggle to drive at night, these are clear warning signs. Surgery restores clear vision and once cataracts are diagnosed, it should not be postponed.
The biggest advantage is that you forget about glasses – both for near and far. This means you can read a book, use your phone and drive without additional visual aids.
You absolutely do! Toric lenses are specifically designed to correct astigmatism and provide clear vision.
These are artificial lenses that are placed inside the eye, while your natural lens remains untouched. They are an excellent option for younger people with high diopters who are not candidates for laser vision correction.
