World Diabetes Day marked with free fundus examinations

For the 8th year in a row, we marked a very important date in the health calendar – World Diabetes Day. For our fellow citizens suffering from this serious disease, we have provided free fundus examinations, with individual consultations with doctors in our Eye Center.

A large number of interested patients responded to the action, which was organized on Thursday, November 14. A team of doctors (Sandra Jovanović, Ph.D., Ivana Ambruš Ivazović, Ph.D., and Olga Lošonc, Ph.D.) performed free fundus examinations and provided expert advice regarding diagnosis and recommendations for further treatment.

According to the data of the Institute for Public Health, there are about 750,000 patients in our country, which is 13.2% of the adult population.

Bearing in mind that diabetes damages the blood vessels of the fundus of the eye leading to a disease called diabetic retinopathy, by organizing such actions we strive to make our contribution to educating the population about the importance of preventive and regular eye examinations, with the aim of starting timely and adequate treatment and preventing permanent vision loss.
